Lorenzo Moya - Oil painting 'Fire on the High Seas'

JP01036

Lorenzo Moya Soto, painter. Born in 1967 in Paine, Chile. He studied human figure painting at the Institute of Contemporary Art in 1984. He enrolled in the Architecture program at the Catholic University of Chile in 1985, and between 1986 and 1990 he studied a Bachelor of Arts degree, with a specialization in painting, at the University of Chile.

The subject matter of his paintings, predominantly acrylic on canvas, evolved from the human figure to landscapes, primarily marine, following a naive and surrealist figurative style. The artist creates enigmatic and playful worlds featuring boats suspended on calm horizons, austere and solitary figures in the midst of nature that evoke nostalgia, precariousness, and fear in the face of a latent but undefined threat. This painting, very characteristic of the aforementioned work, depicts a bustling sea and a red sky illuminated by what appears in the distance to be fire. This work is framed in a wooden frame.
