José de Rokha - 'Landscape of Yellow Poplars and Houses'

JP010354

Known to his friends as "Pepe de Rokha," he was born in Concepción in 1927 and died in 1994. He was the son of the legendary Chilean poet Pablo de Rokha. He held numerous exhibitions in various countries in the Americas and Europe. His works are featured in numerous international collections: the Cali Museum, the House of Culture in Guayaquil, the Medellín Museum, the National Museum of Cuba, and the Museum of Modern Art in Chile. His emblematic murals are those he created in Chile, Ecuador, Spain, the United States, Italy, and Mexico; he served as cultural attaché in the latter country. In this work, we see houses in a rural landscape, very much in the yellow and earth tones of his Impressionist style.
