Large mid-20th century Iranian Ziegler wool rug with Feraghan design.
The decorations on the Feraghan carpet are characterized by medallion designs.
The border is very important; it consists of a series of narrow bands heavily decorated with ornaments. The outer bands have geometric motifs, and the inner bands have stylized flowers. Some very rare examples have the field and borders decorated exclusively with the motif. zil-i sultan . The border colors are often bright and vivid: yellow, light green, blue, and white.
These carpets are very sober and were highly appreciated in English mansions of the Victorian era.
