Anonymous Italian School - Oil on canvas 'Allegorical Representation of History, Clio'

IP1760

This allegorical work from the Italian School depicts a female figure inspired by Clio, the Muse of History, or Sapientia, the classical personification of Wisdom. The figure holds a scroll with the Latin inscription "NON OMNIA DI...", a philosophical message that invites reflection on the limits of power and knowledge. Dressed in warm tones and elegant attire, the woman is presented in a classical architectural setting, conveying serenity and depth . The work is framed in sober wood with carved edges and a relief texture, finished in a brown hue with coppery highlights. Probably inspired by the original by Giovanni Francesco Romanello (Italy 1610-1662).
